Neither the sender nor the receiver will be able to see the message. But if someone forwards that message outside the chat, that message will be still in that forwarded chat.
So suppose I sent you a message on your WhatsApp and I have the disappearing feature enable for your chat, You will not be able to see that message after 7 days. But if you forward that message on any other number, you will still be able to read that message on the forwarded chat.
Same things implies on Media files. Media will be disappear from the chat only and not from the device storage of the receiver.

If you want to completely vanish the media message from the user, you need to use the feature of Delete for Everyone. If you Delete a message containing media file, That image or Video will be deleted from the device folder as well But if user forwards that message on another number, they will be able to retrieve that message.
How to enable Disappearing Feature in WhatsApp
To enable the WhatsApp Disappearing Feature, you need to keep in mind for few things. First of all, you need to have a latest version of WhatsApp.
Update WhatsApp to latest Version.
Disapperaing message on whatsapp supports only in the version 2.20.207.10 or higher in Android and Version 2.20.130.22 or higher in iPhone (iOS Devices).
To Update your WhatsApp, Open the Play Store in your Android smartphone, click on the menu button on the top left corner and go to My apps and Games Then you will she a banner showing the text “Looking for Update” or something related.
Wait for it to fetch the available updates and then Click on the Update button next to WhatsApp
Wait until the Application gets updated. When the update will be Installed, you will get the feature of disappearnig message on WhatsApp. Know you will need to activate it for specific Chat.

How to Turn off Disappearing Message on WhatsApp?
To turn this feature off, you just need to click on the User name or number of the contact and scroll down for the Option of Disappearing message. Now Click on it and you will get few text about the details of Feature. Just the way you seen while turning it on.
Now you will see that the radio button is selected on ON and you need to select OFF to disable this feature.
Just by clicking on OFF button, you are done. Now messages will remain in Chat and will no longer be Disappeared.
